Hi, I’m Lori Castro I am a recording engineer, producer, and mixer who integrates my in-depth experience in record production with my approach to film score recording and mixing. My techniques and strategic experimentation enable bands and composers to discover new sounds, leap over writer's block and bring their sonic visions to life.
My goal is simple: to capture and enhance compelling audio performances that elevates your story and resonates clearly with audiences.
When we meet I want to hear your story, understand your vision, and create a plan to bring it to life - on time and in perfect sync with your artistic goals.

My 20-year career in audio engineering began
in my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. As a teenager, I experimented with guitar pedals and tested recording techniques in my little garage band. This is where I discovered my passion for audio technology and live sound mixing.

After mixing live shows and graduating from Full Sail’s Recording Arts program, I dove into the vibrant music scene in Austin, Texas. I landed a role at an eclectic local recording studio, where I recorded and mixed same-day demos for college and indie bands.
RECORD PRODUCING
A pivotal moment in my career was securing a mentorship with my idol - renowned engineer and producer Sylvia Massy.
Her guidance sharpened my knowledge and instincts as both an engineer & mixer, while also deepening my understanding of the music production process.

She taught me the essential role producers play in helping guide artists through every aspect of their project.

Massy also significantly boosted my confidence by recognizing strengths in me - that I hadn’t before.
Being trusted to engineer, co-produce, and mix projects with her was a dream come true. This ultimately inspired me to move to Los Angeles and explore the fascinating world of surround mixing.
FILM SCORING WORLD

As an in-house audio engineer at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Productions, I was mentored by famous film score mixer - Alan Meyerson.
Learning the process of high-end film score production and surround sound mixing under Alan was invaluable. This experience, plus working with a diverse group of composers, equipped me to be entrusted to work on many award winning projects.

I was asked to help Steve Jablonsky run his new recording and mixing studio.
There I oversaw all things audio and technical and had a leading role in guiding many major projects for Steve from start to finish.
Consulting & Netflix
As an audio specialist and consultant for Netflix, I played a key role in developing technical rooms and Atmos spaces worldwide. My expertise in designing and optimizing audio review rooms not only solved complex technical challenges but also set new standards and procedures.
These remarkable acoustic transformations allowed filmmakers to experience clearer audio translation in these spaces, giving them greater confidence in providing feedback on mixes.

Mentoring and Giving Back
I am proud to have co-created the Future is Female Concert alongside Tori Letzler, a groundbreaking event aimed at elevating female composers in the music industry.
This concert provided a platform for talented composers to showcase their artistry on stage with live musicians and to get more work (which every composer did after the live show).
I really enjoyed jumping back into the live sound engineering seat for this show - to personally install, tech and mix this live for the composers. And at the famous Wiltern Theater too?!- impactful event all around.

I’ve also worked on live sound mixes for OUTFEST, given career-focused presentations for students entering the industry, and mentored emerging film composers on the technical side of their craft.
Additionally, I support female audio engineers by providing guidance on both audio techniques and navigating the industry.

As one of the few women of color in my field, I know firsthand how challenging, intricate, and sometimes isolating this path can be. That’s why I’m committed to mentoring women in the industry—sharing knowledge, creating opportunities, and “holding the door open” to increase our presence behind the console. I actively advocate for greater representation in audio engineering and am dedicated to helping more women build lasting careers in this field.
